Did this L8 quest with a good PUG last night. Long and slow as there are lots of side trips, but it was interesting and the loot was pretty good. The XP was less than 3K, though, which seemed too low to me. I'll be glad to go with any TC group who wants to try it (House K). Here are some hints/comments:
There are lots of undead all over the place. Once you get through the sewer by climbing a rope you get to a large open courtyard that it filled with wraiths and other bad things. Back up immediately (you're in an alleyway) and gang up on them. After the bad guys are cleared out (searing light works very well for a cleric or wiz), you move diagonally across the courtyard to an easy-to-miss down ramp and enter the large open pit where the four caverns are.
You have to work through all four compass points in order to get to the boss and complete the quest. There is a shrine at the floor ot the large pit area. Our party only found one additional shrine in the Eastern Excavation. That made it quite hard. We did two of the excavations with no party member having any mannah. That was amazing. I used up a 50-shot wand of cure.
There was only one release and re-enter for each of us, but the second time in we were able to skip the sewer and head directly to the down ramp and into the pit area.
If anyone knows where there is a shrine in the other three excavations please let me and TC know.
Once you have done the mini-quests in the four excavations you go to the last area, throw a switch, head down, and kill a beholder. One thing, though, to end one of the excavations a party member will need to make a bunch of barrels "holy," and that requires higher wisdom. I did it easily with WIS = 18. Be sure somebody has that level (or at leaast close to it) or you can't finish. There were no traps, so you should be able to do it without a rogue (apologies to the many wonderful TC rogues).
